There are a lot of articles floating around and a lot of questions flooding essential oil forums about using essential oils internally. I am getting many questions about whether the brands of essential oils I am carrying are “safe” for internal use or not. And the amount of questions I am getting about the internal use of essential oils is a little alarming to me, honestly. So I wanted to just take a moment and talk about using essential oils internally and what “safe for internal use” practically means when dealing with essential oils.
I have been getting a lot of questions about what resources and books I recommend. I have multiple stacks of books on essential oils and aromatherapy but, sadly, would not recommend most of them for reasons that range from not being well organized and user friendly, to promoting or teaching false information or promoting unsafe use of oils. I also avoid recommending books that are brand loyal. I think a good book should be about the oils themselves, not promoting a certain company or their blends.
Many of you have been asking about my story / background in essential oils, and how I got started using and teaching about them. And after repeating it over and over I decided to just write it down and share it. I typically keep this side of my life under my hat at least in public, but as the new year approaches, I decided it was time to share a little more of myself and my background with all of you. So here is my story, or at least what I can share in a format like this without taking up 10 pages.
Anyone that has ever struggled with any type of a chronic illness has had some hurtful comments made to them at one time or another. The sad thing is, more times than not these hurtful comments don’t come from hateful, rude people, but more often than not, well meaning (although completely ignorant) people, who are trying to be “helpful.” Now before you go getting offended at me calling lots of nice people ignorant and putting “helpful” in quotation marks, hear me out. First, to those of you who are sick, when someone does or says something that proves they have no idea what it is like to live with a chronic illness, GUESS WHAT? It’s because THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT’S LIKE to live with a chronic illness! And I am so thankful that most of the world does not understand what it is like to deal with long term illnesses, because that means they are relatively healthy! Yes, everyone needs to grow, and learn, and be sympathetic, but if you are wanting true empathy and understanding from someone who has never been through the day in day out struggles we deal with…. well, you might as well try to milk a frog. I know it’s so easy to wish everyone would just understand and “get it”, but we forget that to have our wish all the people we love would have to go through the same hell as we are living in, and I don’t think any of us would wish that on our worst enemy. I just wanted to put out that reminder for all of us. Cause it is lonely, and hard being sick all the time, and people don’t understand. But I’m so glad most people don’t. It makes me so sad that some of my dear friends do get it all too well, because I know the horror they had to go through to understand and be empathetic. But that being said, to those of you who are blessed enough to not be able to understand the struggles of dealing with chronic illness, please keep reading, cause I am not going to let you off the hook just because you haven’t had to live through it.
I have written this blog to answer all of the questions I get about why I am not a distributor for Young Living when I am such a HUGE fan of essential oils. Hopefully this will clearly address the reasons I personally am not a distributor, and do not actively promote YL products. It is certainly NOT my intention to offend anyone who uses and loves YL products or anyone who distributes them. My intention is education, and awareness. You are free to do with the information as you please!
It’s seem like no matter how many movies come out with the same story line as “It’s A Wonderful Life”, I always feel that somehow my life must the the exception. Surely the bad things that I work so hard on, and the past that I wish could be erased, or the prayers that go for years unanswered are the things that keep my life from being what it is supposed to be, not in fact the cornerstones that hold up everything that is good in my life today. I know, I know, all the movies say it’s not true. If all the “bad” things were suddenly gone, it would somehow upset the “balance” of life and some colossal chain of events would alter my thinking forever and I would end up completely bewildered with what I wished my life could be, and be left in a miserable heap begging for my “old life” back.
But the reality of day in day out life is never that sudden revelation that all is well, or that life altering visit from ghosts of Christmas past.
DoTerra Essential Oils
Until about a year and a half ago I had never used DoTerra’s oils, even though I had been hearing about the company for a few years. DoTerra started when a few people who used to work at Young Living (another large essential oil company) branched out because they felt they could produce higher quality oils than were being manufactured at Young Living. The company started in 2008, and has grown by leaps and bounds since then. I in no way claim to know everything about this company, or it’s oils, but I will will share with you my thoughts both pro’s and con’s and you can weigh them all out for yourself.
The health benefits of rooibos tea are not restricted to children, but I am choosing to focus this blog on little ones because so many drugs, as well as herbal supplements are not safe for use in infants and small children. I know this is not an essential oil, but rooibos tea has helped Hudsen so much since he was born I felt I should write a bit about it for other mom’s out there.
In a society drenched with information, why write one more article? Create one more class? Open one more group? Have one more website? When people can go online and find all the information they could ever want, why did I decide to begin teaching on essential oils?
Well here is the answer as simply as I can put it.
In my research over the last 15 years, I found there is a startling hole in the information available online.
